Comment:

Pride and Prejudice is an amazing book about a young lady named Elizabeth Bennet, who is living in Regency England. She has four sisters, Jane, Mary, Catherine (Kitty), and Lydia. The novel starts out with her mother telling her father that a rich young man has moved into the neighborhood, and that they must make his acquaintance. Eventually, he has a relationship with Jane, who is considered the most beautiful girl in the neighborhood. At the same time, his close friend, Mr. Darcy, ends up falling for Elizabeth, but struggles with this, since the first time he met her he did not make a good impression. In fact, she heard him tell Mr. Bingley that “She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me, and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men” (Austen, 13). Mr. Darcy later regrets the prideful way he overlooked her, and wishes that he had made a better first impression. Overall, this is a fantastic book that has been my favorite since the first time I read it. The best part about this book is that it was written in the late 18th century, early 19th century, and is still relevant today. In my opinion, everybody should be required to read Pride and Prejudice at least once in their life. However, the language may be hard for younger readers to grasp, since it is written in an older form of english that is no longer in use. I would recommend this timeless classic to everybody older than 12 because of both the language, and the content.
