This book was a wonder. A realistic look into a boy's life as he struggles with his family relationships and his new experiences in a 5th grade classroom. I loved, loved, loved this book. One of my favorites this year. It was so honest and inspiring and filled with hope despite the setbacks that occurred for all of them. The middle school headmaster was such a wonderful example for his students and a true servant -- a model that many can follow. Loved this quote from his graduation address to the 5th grade at the end of the book: “If every person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary - the world really would be a better place. And if you do this, if you act just a little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday, may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God.” The quote above is just one of many of the great concepts set forth in this book reminding us how we can love the other people we come in contact with each day -- how we can show God's love to others. I put this book on my "To Read" list because I had seen the movie trailer. I must say that the casting for August's mom and dad seems to be spot on. Looking forward to seeing the book brought to life even though the written word can't possibly be trumped in this case. If you doubt me, just look at the list of quotes on this page.
