This movie is about a woman named Taeko Okajima and her life in Tokyo. She is very fond of the countryside and often visits there as it is one of her favourite places to be. I thought it was a pretty straight forward movie that talked about the life of a young adolescent girl who faced struggles every girl does at their age. Some of the topics were hitting puberty, boys and the relationships in her life. These were all relatable topics as I also had to figure these out myself growing up, which helped me connect to the main character more. One of the parts that I loved in this film was the ending. After finally trying to figure out what she really wanted in the next part of her life, with everyone around her telling her different things she should do, she chose what felt the best for her. It made me feel happy that the main character was overjoyed with the decision she had made for herself. It was also super cute having her past images parade behind her as she makes her way to the place that makes her feel the most joy, as if to cheer her on. The message I got from that, is that your own happiness is what’s most important in the end. ⅘ rating.--@minimonie of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board Only Yesterday is a 1991 Japanese animated drama film written and directed by Isao Takahata, based on the 1982 manga of the same title by Hotaru Okamoto and Yuko Tone. It was animated by Studio Ghibli. I really liked this movie and the message it was sending. It is very beautiful, realistic, and simply a stunning view at what really is, when you come down to it, a normal life. I would recommend this movie to adults 18 and up. It is a story of growth, from a spoiled, bratty child, to a grown and intelligent adult. Only Yesterday was a great movie, definitely old but really good. I really liked the movie and the message it was sending. While I was watching the film, I could feel the different emotions that the main character was feeling. From doubt, to regret, to all sorts of different emotions. Another thing I enjoyed about the film was the storyline. They talked about the hardships of their elder generation who worked in the countryside;no matter how hard the elder generation worked, they could never afford to buy their own made products. I also really liked how the storyline of the movie was much more different than other movies. I personally believe that this film has no real plot twist, this is also one of the differences that makes this movie more original and likeable. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy about the movie was, in some parts of the film, there were very long pauses between the characters and after a while it gets a bit boring. Other than that, this film was very amazing and I definitely recommend this movie to everyone. @Rainbooks of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
