Ghettoside

a True Story of Murder in America
Jul 02, 2015TheresaAJ rated this title 5 out of 5 stars
This book explores the homicide plague "south of the 10" in Los Angeles. While the book focuses on the murder of Bryant Tennelle, the son of a LAPD homicide detective, it also explores the phenomenon of "ghettoside killings" in America's poor, black neighborhoods. The author explodes several myths about being poor and maintains that the root of the problem is the wholesale abandonment of America's poor, black neighborhoods by the state and the justice system. Leovy also shows that this is a common pattern across time and cultures to what are considered marginalized people. An important book.
