This was a cute story, albeit a little typical. I don't watch many teen shows, but I feel like if you do then you'll recognize a lot of tropes used in this novel (the mean ex-best friend suddenly seeming nice, the hot new guy sending mixed signals, the slightly overweight girl who feels no boy will ever like her, misunderstandings and gossip leading to fights, etc. Degrassi comes to mind). But still, this was an easy read with likable main characters and a positive message. Some of the characters were two-dimensional and I didn't really understand Tom's Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde persona that appeared later in the book (where was he coming from with that?). And sometimes Maggie's self-induced martyrdom and self-loathing "woe is me" attitude was a bit wearing, but overall she was likable. I went in rooting for Nash--'cause I just have a thing for the gay guys :)--but I enjoyed Maggie as well. If you're looking for a quick read that discusses teen issues without leaving you overwhelmed, give this a try.
