A messy and complicated coming-of-age story about a teenage girl named Krissy, who discovers one day that she is intersex. The book follows her slightly before her diagnosis, and afterward, where she has to come to terms with the fact that she identifies and outwardly looks like a girl, but she also possesses male chromosomes. What follows is an important discussion of gender and gender identity. The author takes care to explain every subject she discusses, so this book can be particularly useful for those who are unfamiliar with what being intersex means. Beyond all that, this book is incredibly entertaining, sweet, and Kristin's struggle with identity will appeal to anyone who has ever once felt that they don't quite "fit in."
