In my experience, many "good" books are easily forgotten after a year or two. I guess forgetting isn't the right word, but one only thinks about them when they see them in a book store or see them in the library. Many "fine" books don't reappear often, don't jump to the forefront of books that one jumps to recommend. We Were Liars is not one of those books. This is a book that I refer back to often. It changed my taste in books, my taste in genres, my taste in characters. This book was crucial in my development and maturity as a reader and it was a window into what a really, really, really great book is like. As a writer, it changed my writing style and what I wanted to write about. When I say this book was life-changing, I truly, truly mean it. Reading this book, experiencing Lockhart's writing didn't feel new. It felt like coming home.
