An intriguing American fantasy for young readers 4th-6th grade and great for reading aloud.
Bingo and J’Miah, two young raccoons, are the Scouts of the Swamp, trying to protect it from being destroyed by a nasty group of wild boars. The Scouts enlist the help of 12-year-old Chap and his mother, who run a restaurant on its last legs, on the edge of the Swamp. Chap discovers that Sonny Boy, the swamp’s owner is trying to sell the swamp to a tough female developer.
The story is told in a mythic style, jumping back in time to when Chap’s grandfather and Sonny Boy’s father were young, and Chap’s grandfather lost his Studebaker in the Swamp.
