This is Castillo's 4th mystery featuring Kate Burkholder, a formerly-Amish chief of police in rural Ohio. Kate had left the Plain Life and her hometown when she was a teen, lived in Cleveland, worked as acop for many years, then moved back. She has unique skills to handle life in her equally Amish and "Englisher" town, understanding both populations well. And she speaks Pennsylvania Dutch! In this mystery, teenage Amish girls are going missing, and a hidden pattern - perhaps going back many years - emerges. Perhaps not as edge-of-your-seat as the previous titles in the series, but Castillo has become - with a relatively few number of books - (almost but not quite) like Nevada Barr for me: dependably exciting plotlines, intelligent and interesting characters, and above average writing. Can't wait for the next Kate - especially to see how her relationship with Tomasetti progresses.
