A cop flick done in cinema verite style with truly impressive effects. THIS is how (realistic-feeling) flicks should be made! About a unit in charge of child abuse cases, with a cast of cops and perps that's completely engaging and seldom strikes a wrong note. One piece of dialogue only conflicts with this ('So why aren't you enjoying my birthday celebrations?'), which is notable for being the single one of several dozen that rings untrue. Quite a number of other scenes more than makes up for this (e.g. where they all get the giggles: *very* hard to pull of convincingly) Some superb acting that's obviously all semi-improvised but with the most convincing effect. Frequent use of non-actors also succeeds very nicely. Even a suicide that comes right out of the blue seems plausible, since the characters are given such apparent depth. Don't miss this. PS: It's got Karin Viard in a small but visible role (France's greatest living actress, to me).
