This 1951 Swedish film version of the 1880's August Strindberg play, "Miss Julie," portrays the clash between the upper class and the servant class along with the subject of male domination over females and adds the complication of life-long psychological mistreatments resulting in very wounded neurotic individuals. While this won the Cannes Festival award for the best film, it was banned in many places in America, including Chicago, Illinois.
