At 29, Julie Barenson is too young to give up on love. Four years after her husband's tragic death, she is finally ready to risk giving her heart to someone again. But to whom? Should it be Richard Franklin, who is handsome and sophisticated and treats her like a queen, or Mike Harris, who is Julie's best friend in the world, though not as debonair? Now, with a decision that should bring her more happiness than she's had in years, Julie's life is about to become a living nightmare, as one man's jealousy spins into a deadly obsession.

I've read quite a few of Nicolas Sparks books but this one is defiantly one of the best if not the best. It has of course romance but also mystery which brings a thrilling twist to this book. The characters are all very well developed and you really get attached to them and try to understand what they are feeling. Towards the end it defiantly is heart wrenching. This book made me smile, laugh, and cry. Very well written and a good read. 10/10 recommend to anyone who loves romance and mystery. Hope this was helpful.

IMO this is Nicholas sparks best novel. Love, loss, a heroic dog, what more could you ask for?!

This was a suspenseful Nicolas Sparks book and good entertainment. I enjoyed it once I got into it. It took about 100 pages. It was traditional Nicolas Sparks with a nice love story and tragedy built in.

The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks is a really great book. It takes place in Swansboro, North Carolina. As much as I enjoyed the last half of the book I didn't really like the first half. Simply because of how long and slow I found it to be. The beginning to me seemed like it really dragged on especially with character development. I absolutely loved the relationship that Julie has with Singer her Great Dane and how he was almost symbolic of Jim (Julie's deceased husband). The book starts off with Julie finally being able to start looking for a new relationship 4 years after Jim's death. She starts dating Richard Franklin but after a few dates, realizes there's nothing there and ends it. All the while Mike Harris who was Jim's best friend and best man at his wedding has had feelings for Julie for a very long time and they start seeing each other. Richard not being able to handle the rejection doesn't take this very well and becomes very creepy and stalker like. Through out the novel we see what made Richard become this way and what happened in his childhood and past. The ending is very heart pounding and powerful and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. This book is kind of different from other Nicholas Sparks novels because there was some chilling and suspenseful moments in this book that his other novels don't have.
