I thought it was okay the first time I read this, which was three years ago, but the second time around, I thought it was really good for some reason. The trilogy itself is also really good too. For avid dystopian readers I would highly recommend this. I personally think it's better than The Hunger Games, but that's just my opinion.

As a twelve-year old, this was a harder read for me. So many unfamiliar words. Why, I couldn't even pronounce the five factions right at the beginning. Divergent starts off really well, but it becomes quite tragic at the end, and I tend to get emotional if a story does not end well. It's not like I tear up, but a heavy feeling clings to me throughout the day and I feel a pang of sadness in my chest ever so often. But overall it is a good book and I would definitley recommend it to teenagers, because I think the five factions are a good reminder for people in their teens these days to remember that there is more to becoming a young adult than just intimidacy, drinking, etc. (Of course there are also many teenagers who don't get involved in such things, nor are all of them so bad).
Those of you who enjoy action and romance, I suggest reading "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J Maas if you haven't already.

I fall in the club of people who were so busy comparing Divergent to Hunger Games that it fell short. I sped through the whole thing, so it was entertaining and fun, but I finished it and didn’t feel any particular compulsion to read the sequel.

This was wonderfully written! I loved this dystopian novel. If Suzanne Collins and Kiera Cass worked together to write a novel, this would probably be something like it.

I like this book because of the values it teaches. Each faction represents a good value (honesty, bravery, selflessness, kindness and intelligence) I think everyone can find themselves in this book. A fast paced page turner!!! 5 stars

This book shows that you can overcome certain things and fears and that it is a real page turner start to the series. Read the books and than watch the movies so it actually makes sense though.

I liked the Divergent book because of its factions. I liked how the factions were named after qualities they wanted. They really spoke to me in a delightful way. This book was really interesting and fun. This book is certainly one of my favorite books. - Chloe, age 10

Divergent is a wonderful action packed book that takes place in a dystopian society. Divergent is the first book in the trilogy that was written by Veronica Roth and in my opinion is the best of the three books. The other two books in this trilogy are Insurgent and Allegiant. In Divergent the readers are introduced to the main character Tris and the dystopian Chicago of the future. In this dystopian society people are split up into factions which I thought was very interesting and kind of reminded me of how people got sorted into houses in Harry Potter. This book is a great read that I would definitely recommend to anyone that loves a good dystopian novel. 4 Stars

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Peter stabbing Eward's eye, Simulations, Tris getting hurt over and over again, Tris almost get killed by the people she loves the most. But is also sad because Four doesn't know Tris in the end and tries to hurt her, she witnesses her moms death, and she has to kill one of her best friends.

Violence: Yes, of course Divergent would have violence. It's like The Hunger Games that way. For example, getting stab in the eye with a butterknife, fighting each other as a test, and being under simulation and killing off all the people of one faction. That's alot already.
