I don't know that Amanda has exceeded her work here. It's all about the reptile brain, as i take it ( the mammalian brain's struggle against it's older shall we say 'partner'). So all this is an exercise in symbolism, by an unheralded great director, Ken Russell. If you like Hugh Grant, he's pretty young here. The scene with the bagpiper fighting off the serpent is kind of awkward. The monster at the bottom of the inner tunnel looks much like a moray eel.

Hard to describe, except as a Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of itself. Hugh Grant stars as the white worm. Amanda Donohoe has some fabulous outfits, which were ripped off by X-Men. Peter Capaldi reveals what is beneath his kilt. It is definitely surprising.

This movie has a funny and interesting side, but I would have preferred it without the gratuitous nudity. Hugh Grant and Peter Capaldi are great; I could see them doing a sequal where they tour the world digging up and fighting off monsters.
