An excellent primer on the importance of sleep for infants. The chapter on colic babies was crucial to establishing a healthy sleep routine in our house.

I don't recommend cry-it-out, but for some babies (esp. post-colic babies), there are no other solutions and this book makes it clear and common sense.

Good read in general but I don't agree with the cry-it-out method.

This was the best, most informative book on sleep and building good sleep habits for our two, very different children - however we did NOT do the cry-it out strategy and I would not recommend CIO.

This is a great book. It goes into details on why you should let your child sleep more. However, if you need a quick summary of this, it is to let your child cry it out (CIO) as far as when it comes to sleep. Let the child learn for themselves how to self-sooth and fall asleep unassisted.

I actually talked with Dr Weissbluth in 1993 when my daughter would just not sleep at night or naps. It was 5 months of hell!

He called me personally, we got my daughter on a correct schedule and within a week she was sleeping through the night and we were back to 2 naps, one long and one short each day.

Sleep begets sleep as they say. Excellent book. Mostly for 4-12 mos, but also has info on children to 18 yrs of age.

It was quite precise for our child.

This book has truly been a life saver. With my first child it taught us the basics of good sleep for an infant - we didn't realize infants had such distinct sleep patterns. We followed the cry-it-out approach with our son and he was sleeping through the night on the 3rd night.

With our second child, it's taught us how to create a sleep schedule for an infant when there is an older (noisier) child at home.

This book is great because it tackles different situations - sleeping in the crib vs sleeping in the bed with mom and dad. It also gives advice based on how old your child is (based on weeks, months, and eventually years).

It is a bit lengthy, but surprisingly, it's a quick read. There are a lot of stories from parents and there were several sections that we was able to skip because they didn't apply to our family.

The author is a pediatrician and much of the information is based on experiences he has had with his patients.

I recommend this book to friends whenever I get the chance! The info about creating a sleep schedule is invaluable. And the strategies to help your child sleep through the night are so helpful. It worked for us!
