Add a CommentOnly a handful of picture books make me cry, and this is one of them. A heartfelt story about "mejor amigas" Daniela and Evelyn Del Rey that live next door to one another and their last afternoon together before they have to say goodbye. This was nostalgia-inducing up to the last page and captured the deep feelings of best friends, or as Meg Medina writes in the last line "the one I will always know by heart". Inclusion of some Spanish language and beautiful illustrations of black and brown characters make this a fantastic, diverse read with a wonderful message. A must read!!!
This is a beautiful and touching picture book about lifelong friends. It follows the girls as they play during their last day together as neighbors. The illustrations are bright and whimsical, and there are even a few words of Spanish throughout. A special multicultural staple for a difficult moment.
This book is a top choice for 2020 according to Publishers Weekly.
