Add a CommentThis novel was a wonderful mash-up of a classic fairy tale with science fiction, and did it very well. I don't think there was a step wrong here, great characters, hilarious narration, and good action. I now have to wait for more which might be my only complaint.
The magic of Fairy Tales and the political drama of Sci-fi combine and conflict in this first book of the new Thorne Chronicles series. At it's base, the chronicle of the life of Rory Thorne cribs a lot from the tale of Sleeping Beauty from the fairies that visit the princess to the royal youth trapped, sleeping in an inaccessible tower. Twisting the tale into something of a comedic history, though, the story primarily revels as it subverts that original premise with some modern sensibilities and a sci-fi backdrop full of political drama and maneuvering as the simultaneously blessed and cursed princess works to defy expectation and carve out her own fate.
