#TBT: Jurassic Park and Blockbusters of 1993

With the new movie Jurassic World opening on screens this weekend, we're naturally thinking about the first movie in that series, Jurassic Park, the #1 movie at the American box office in 1993. Steven Spielberg's game-changing special effects, combined with a crackling adventure plot (the film was based on a bestselling novel by Michael Crichton), was a recipe for huge success that spawned tw… (more)

Classic Romantic Comedy Back on the Big Screen

The first movie I ever saw about adult relationships was Sleepless in Seattle. I remember my mother dragging me with her to a random movie theater in the western suburbs to see some movie with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan that in my mind was for "old people." I was 13 years old and hadn't even heard of When Harry Met Sally. I remember by the end of Sleepless in Seattle, I felt like it was one of t… (more)

An enjoyable film for a quiet night. It is a popcorn movie that does not require deep thought; sometimes, that's what you want. I thought all the actors were appealing --l liked the kid. It was a shock to see Tom Hanks looking so young.

To the May 10th comment--There are at least four shots of the Twin Towers in the background (the kid on top of the Empire State Building, Tom Hanks entering Manhattan, a night shot before the dinner break-up scene, and behind the Empire State Building with hearts). You would see the towers if you were watching the wide-screen version.

if you think about - the movie is so dump, like those characters are on IQ 80 - there is no deep sense in their actions - looks like it's parody
Meg - you should really be careful and stay away from Mr Hanks
in next movie he will rob you from your bookstore

BTW interesting that I can't see Twin Towers on any of the scenes from NY
I believe one of the scene was shot INSIDE of it, but otherwise - NONE

A light, unique romance laced with lots of recognizable snippets of songs. My favorite moment was when Tom Hanks sees Meg Ryan near the end of the movie, and he has this great, subtle change of facial expression as he tries to piece things together--in the entirety of the movie, that stuck out to me as a particularly great instant of acting.

A decent film with some excellent bits tempered by an annoying kid character. Would it be wrong for me to type that the trailer's a classic (*****)? No. No, I wouldn't. Boat houses are awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Lj2U-cmyek

VERY GOOD 1993 romantic comedy with lots of great film shots of Seattle, some at Pike Place Market and Alki Beach in West Seattle.
I was a bit surprised when this film's flavor of 'movie love' gradually drew me in, but it did. The actors were excellent; don't think I've ever seen enticing Meg Ryan before. Rosie O'Donnell as Becky was fun, too.
I've been spending most of my film time watching 30's, 40's and other films from before I was born (or had been too young to be interested when they came out) - glad I watched this more contemporary film.

And to Finally close out my time in Seattle, I can think of no more fitting a film than this one. I needed to see this one. sampled it but never watched it the whole way through. Now I know the reason. It just wasn't time yet. For this movie ends where I never thought it would. In NYC.....That's the Place for me.....Right as It should be. 6/8/15 3:17p. I have just 2 films left to view..1 of Willa 23** & 53's " For Your Eyes Only " ded. 6/9-6/26/2015

The Best Movie Made In Seattle!! Possibly the Best Movie for Meg Ryan, who has lately not done much. Tom Hanks is excellent and let's not forget that the picture has a great deal of classic pop music! Add this to the Top 25 All Time Romantic Comedy lists!.

Even 20 years later, this chick flick is still enjoyable.
