I wasn't very familiar with this Marvel character prior to seeing this film. I enjoyed it, and also found Eddie Brock to be a sympathetic character by the end of the movie. Perhaps a bit hardcore for its PG-13 rating. Look for Stan Lee in what might have been one of his last cameo appearances.

I grew up in one of those communal living spaces and I can tell you that this reminds me of the good old days where movies can be all sorts of campy with none of those gross na-chew-ral ingredients such as continuity, character progression, A hero's journey, and all that other stuff that liberal Hollywood wants to tell me makes a great film. You know what was a great film?
Dancer in the dark, filled my soul up with what it needed. The struggles of a single mother, a love of music, and that fact that were all gonna die one day cold and alone.

Generic pontificating bad guy, generic save-the-world plot, underdeveloped characters. But it also has quirky moments like "I can't believe I just bit that guy's head off." Definitely not a top tier comic book movie, but fun if one doesn't demand too much.

Good movie can’t wait for the sequel with carnage

I don't really understand the hate for this movie. It's most likely from movie snobs who thought they were going to watch an Oscar-worthy, meaningful movie with a great message. It's freaking Venom. Mindless action, humor, and Tom Hardy is great. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and highly recommend for those looking for a fun, action movie (and fans of Marvel Comics).

Venom is fairly entertaining, especially once the title character is properly introduced, but definitely not up to the usual Marvel caliber displayed in other recent releases such as Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. As much as I love Tom Hardy, I wonder if he wasn't slightly miscast here. I haven't read the comics, but Hardy seems to play Eddie Brock a bit quirkier (and perhaps dumber) than seems to make sense for the character.

A new anti-hero for the "losers" among us ... horrors in the streets of San Francisco. Film is really only a bit over 90 minutes long ... with a short clip of Woody Harrelson and a Spiderman cartoon in between the end credits. Not great but origin stories are usually more interesting than sequels of sequels.

Don't believe the hype. Unless you're a sucker and just want a big dumb action movie, avoid it like the plague. Or watch it - what do I care? haha All I know is I waited for months to see this movie and was cautious of the hype both for and against it. Well, I have to say, it was way worse than I ever expected. Tom Hardy, normally such a great actor, seemed like a first quarter drama student. Riz Ahmed & Michelle Williams are both great too - but not here. Williams was phoning it in from frame one. There's no real reason for the carnage that ensues either - it's all just big dumb, loud and graphic. It would have been a hit in about 1993, but today - I'm sorry - it flat out SUCKS. One & a half stars just cuz it's kinda fun to see a character I grew up with and frankly, he does look pretty good in a few scenes - not many, but a few.

One of the best Marvel films to not come out of Marvel Studios. This movie had a perfect mix of comedy, dark humor, and action to keep the story going and entertaining. The CGI is a bit heavy handed for the movie and the definition of the symbiotes could have been treated with more care. Tom Hardy makes a believable Eddie Brock and turns him into a sympathetic character.

34 good quotes in IMDb already, thanks to the contributors. However, these two standouts are not posted yet:

You are a loser, Eddie.
On my planet, I am kind of a loser, like you. But here, we could be more.

And nice original song:
I'm the supervillain
Dad and Mom was Iosin' their marbles to.
You marvel that?
Eddie Brock is you and I'm the suit,
so call me Venom.
