Two decades have passed and crime kingpin Michael Corleone has nearly succeeded in keeping his promise that his family would one day be legit. A philanthropist devoted to public service, Michael is to receive a special award from the Pope for his good works. Determined to buy redemption, Michael and his lawyer B.J. are working on a complicated but legal deal to bail the Vatican out of looming financial troubles. However, trouble looms in the form of mob underling Joey Zaza, who is muscling into the Corleone turf. "The Commission" of Mafia families, represented by patriarch Altobello doesn't want to let Corleone out of the Mafia. Not to mention Vincent Mancini, the illegitimate and equally temperamental son of Michael's long-dead brother Sonny. Vincent desperately wants into the family, and at the urging of Connie, Michael welcomes the young man and allows him to adopt the Corleone name. However, a flirtatious attraction between Vincent and Michael's naïve daughter Mary develops, and threatens to become a full-fledged romance and undo the godfather's future plans.

The Godfather is overflowing with life, rich with all the grand emotions and vital juices of existence, up to and including blood.

I've never seen a better performance by Pacino apart from the sequel.

The Godfather Part II is my favorite of the three Godfather movies. As a diehard Godfather fan of both the novel as well as the films, I believe that this film has the most interesting plot line. Robert de Niro beautifully plays a young Vito Corleone making the Corleone family empire. We also see a young Michael Corleone trying to legitimatize the Corleone name in Las Vegas while avoiding attempts on his life and taking care of his family. The Godfather Part II shows both Vito and Michael’s way of handling and helping the Corleone family and will always be in my top 10 movies. 4.9 out of 5.

All time classic Hollywood gangster films- well maybe not Part III ( which is awful ), but I & II are classics.

Understandably a classic, I enjoy THE GODFATHER. It's one of those movies you watch once a decade. A complex story of family and "family", it changed the way organized crime was depicted in film forever. THE GODFATHER certainly leaves its mark. I highly recommend it.

I don't get the hullabaloo over THE GODFATHER, PART 2. The overwhelming public opinion is that it's better than the first, but I do not agree. The Robert DeNiro parts are vastly more interesting than the Pacino storyline, which drags the whole thing down. Convoluted and bogged up by its own pretension, THE GODFATHER, PART 2, in my opinion, doesn't even compare to the original. I don't recommend it.

The movie was great, but just wasn't the same without Vito.

(Part II) Michael Corleone: "Fredo... you're nothing to me now. ...You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you, or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand?" (walks away)

(Part II) (Vito returns years later to Sicily and meets Don Ciccio, the man who murdered Vito's family) Don Ciccio: "What's your name?" Vito Corleone: "My name is Vito Corleone." Don Ciccio: "Vito Corleone! Ha ha ha! You took the name of this town. And what's your father's name?" Vito Corleone: "His name was... Antonio Andolini." Don Ciccio: "Louder. I don't hear so good." Vito Corleone: "My father's name was Antonio Andolini... and this is for you!" (tears his stomach open with a knife)

(Tessio brings in Luca Brasi's bulletproof vest, delivered with a fish inside) Sonny: "What the hell is this?" Clemenza: "It's a Sicilian message. It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes."

Don Corleone: My wife is crying upstairs. I hear cars coming to the house. Consigliore of mine, I think it's time you told your Don what everyone seems to know.

Tom Hagen: I didn't tell Mama anything. I was just about to come up and wake you so that I could tell you.

Don Corleone: But you needed a drink first.
And now you've had your drink.

Tom Hagen: They shot Sonny on the causeway. He's dead

MICHAEL: ‘Well, when Johnny was first starting out, he was signed to this personal service contract; with a big band leader. And as his career got better and better, he wanted to get out of it. Now, Johnny is my father's godson. And my father went to see this band leader, and he offered him $10,000 to let Johnny go. But the band leader said no. So the next day, my father went to see him; only this time with Luca Brasi. And within an hour, he signed a release, for a certified check for $1,000.’ KAY: ‘How'd he do that?’ MICHAEL: ‘My father made him an offer he couldn't refuse.’ KAY : ‘What was that?’ MICHAEL:‘Luca Brasi held a gun to his head, and my father assured him that either his brains -- or his signature -- would be on the contract. That's a true story. That's my family, Kay. It's not me.’
