Top Picks: Meryl Streep Movies
When it comes to acting, it’s hard to imagine a more critically acclaimed and genre fluid actress than Meryl Streep. With 21 Oscar nominations and three wins for best actress and best supporting actress, she has done everything from period dramas, to comedies, musicals, romantic dramas, and everything in-between. Here we go again is right. It's almost devoid of any acting talent or plot, full of cliche'd dialogue and characters. Not even the scenery was enough to finish watching it.
Ok, I laughed at the 2 men doing the Titanic pose. All the heartbreaking moments of a normal romantic comedy, without any of that plot nonsense, you're smart enough to fill it in yourself, if you weren't distracted by all the singing. Beautiful people, beautiful scenery, happy ending.
I did not hear good feedback for this movie but it was actually quite good. It's an easy movie to watch. Just fun and performers. I do find it a bit hard to accept singers who don't do justice to the great ABBA vocals, but it was not too bad. Overall, an enjoyable movie for the whole family.
Without the music: 2 stars; With: 3 stars (maybe even 3.5). Very confusing in the beginning until you figure out that the scenes go back and forth between flashbacks and current time. Some parts were so silly as to be funny -- Don't know if that was intentional or not. The musical scene at the end with all the cast was good and fun.
This movie is superb - I love it. It is an excellent sequel to Mamma Mia. The actors from the first movie reprise their roles and the actors who are used as younger versions of the original selection are excellent and convincing. The music is fantastic too. It is one of my favorite movies of all time - a real feel good movie!
So much better than the original and so much ridiculous fun. Lily James, as young Donna, is completely infectious.
We were disappointed that so much of the back story was rewritten from the first movie. "Took ____ to the island and dot dot dot" didn't happen in the second movie. And that's just one difference.
Too much time spent rehashing pre- Mamma Mia timeline. It would have been more successful creating a new life challenge to sing about. This was like a Mamma Mia reunion with year book insight.
Plotting and music not up to the original. Does not have the happy easy going of first film. Unfortunately disappointing.
