I recently read a quote from the great author Jacqueline Woodson that reminds me of this book: "Picture books are poems! I’m always so surprised that poets don’t write more picture books." Indeed. Picture books like this one help kids explore big questions and ideas in the safety of their caregiver's lap.

A book for talking about identity or awareness of self.

A great introduction to the concept of individuality and uniqueness. Children often wonder how they came to be - why they are tall, short, athletic, shy, etc. The surprise ending connects everyone together, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.
