"Stella Krakus, a curator at Manhattan's renowned Central Museum of Art, is having the roughest week in approximately ever ... But the appearance of a mysterious map, depicting a 19th-century utopian settlement, sends Stella--a dogged expert in American graphics and fluidomanie (don't ask)--on an all-consuming research mission. As she teases out the links between a haunting poem, several unusual novels, a counterfeiting scheme, and one of the museum's colorful early benefactors, she discovers the unbearable secret that [her missing colleague] Paul's been keeping, and charts a course out of the chaos of her own life"-- Provided by publisher.

I love a book that takes place in the world of art, so I started reading with high expectation. Ives has written an intricate tale woven with mystery and intelligence. Intelligence to the point of me keeping a list of interesting phrases like - delectation of pork, imaginary conurbation, averred, care of the ouroboros, tautalogical tendency, intaglio item............Adding to the list kept me reading. I did enjoy the story but it was missing something akin to baking cookies but forgetting the butter.
