Just finished watching Season 8 which was terrific and was disappointed by Season 1, it just doesn't have that hilarious vibe in all the episodes like the latter seasons. I think David is still finding his footing humor wise. I found myself fast forwarding quite a bit which I didn't do at all in Season 8. But there are still a few gems to look for in this season.
If you wanted to watch a show that looked like a college improve class, than this is for you. The actors are constantly speaking at the same time, to the point where (if you do not have subtitles on) you can not understand what is going on. The scenes do not look rehearsed, and the humor felt bland and unoriginal. Since I have seen Youtube series with better production value, I did not evn finish the first episode and I'll avoid the rest of the series.
There are plenty of cringe-worthy moments in Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David is a real A-hole most of the time and the series is just one social train wreck after another - of his own making. But that's the thing about train wrecks. They're awful, but impossible not to watch as they unfold.
Sometimes funny antics of despicable Larry David as he traverses LA / Hollywood's entertainment scene. Larry manages to play the social victim while acting a total jerk.
The King of cringe comedy
Five stars. No doubt. There are a few eipsodes where it offends but come on, it is a show.
can't get into it. seems totally improvised
If you like Seinfeld, then you'll love curb. Some themes are similar, but the cast and the improvising with colourful language is definitely more "real." This would be very difficult to produce because of the improvised humour; imagine doing any of these scenes without laughing.
Let's be real, shall we? This show is set in Los Angeles. When people say something is "New York Humor" they really mean Jewish humor. You know - neurotic, angsty, intellectual, irreverant, confrontational. We're a complicated people. But, we're funny damn it and we don't have much tolerance for euphemisms. Larry David is a comic genuis. He was also co-writer and producer on another little show chuck-full of New York humor - Seinfeld.
