I wasn’t wild about the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I didn’t dislike it, but I felt that they were trying so hard to sell us on the exaggeratedly quirky characters that not enough effort went into the plot, which seemed rote and uninteresting to me. I’m pleased to say that “Volume 2,” as it seems to be called, is a better film. The characters are still comedically over-the-top, but in support of a story rather than in place of one. I also happen to think that Kurt Russell makes everything he’s in better. And it’s a small part of the movie, but the CGI in which they recreate the appearance of the young Kurt Russell is just flawless. This has been tried several times in recent films, and until now has looked fakey and off-putting, but this time it could easily be mistaken for actual old film of the youthful Russell. The film is impressive both as a technical feat and as a piece of entertainment.

When Peter was a little boy he missed not having a dad around. His favorite TV show was called "Knight Rider" starring David Hasselhoff. Hasselhoff's character's name was Michael and was a heroic crime fighter that had been given a new identity and a super technologically advanced car controlled by a computer brain hundreds of years ahead of its time. It could drive the super fast amazing car which had sensors and access to the Internet(yes the Internet already existed in the 80s) and all computer systems on Earth and could do the most amazing things including talk with Michael while he was in the car or via his wrist radio anytime. This computer was named KITT as was the car it controlled. Neither Micheal or KITT ever used weapons of any kind; but nevertheless always caught the bad guys.
In spite of having a perfectly good grandfather whom we saw in the first movie Peter wished that David Hasselhoff could be his dad and carried his picture cut out from a magazine wherever he went. As an adult hero himself Peter tells his friends about this after he meets a guy claiming to be his dad. He only mentions the name David Hasselhoff and the fact that he had a talking car. He doesn't mention Knightrider or KITT. David Hasselhoff clearly gave permission for the use of his name and in fact makes a cameo appearance in the movie; but apparently the owner of the Knight Rider and KITT trademarks either did not chose to sell permission (which I'm fine with) or Marvel Studios decided they could refer to these trademarks in a sneaky and vague enough way that they could avoid having to pay for using these trademarked titles and names.
Was Marvel Studios dishonest here?

The first one was one of my favorite movies of all time. Didn't think this one could have been better but it was. I almost grew a six-pack from laughing at some parts lol

I enjoyed this more than I anticipated (though my 6th grader liked it more). Baby Groot is adorable, and I liked the music, so that made it worth it for me. It certainly wasn't my favorite Marvel movie, but I also didn't like the first Guardians of the Galaxy as much as other Marvel movies, either. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one too.

I found this film to be equal to the first--another fun run, interesting plot and the characters continue to be tough, funny, and heartwarming.
