While the vehicle driving this novel is adolescent friendship -
Its truth lies in Messud's deep understanding of human nature
and multiple insights..One:."sometimes I felt that growing up and being a girl was about learning to be afraid."
Messed writes with a smooth eloquence that makes this psychological tale an effortless read.

A bittersweet coming-of-age story about the friendship of two girls as they grow up and grow apart.

Found this trite, predictable, characters not all that interesting: point: angst, loss, abandonment: teenage relationship-

JCLGreggW Jun 07, 2017

Massud elegantly maps the geography of a teen girl's connection with her best friend in small town Massachusetts and brings to vibrant life the power of friendship that can only exist at that fundamental age. This slim, literary novel is magic at all levels and is an absolute feast for book clubs.
