He earned his B.S. degree in business education from Ohio University and his M.A. degrees in educational policy studies and social work from the University of Kentucky and the University of Wisconsin, respectively. He also completed training with the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland in organizational and systems development. For over thirty-three years, he was the President and CEO of East End Neighborhood House, a non-profit youth and family services organization and the oldest and largest family based organization in Cleveland, Ohio. As a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Leadership Fellow (1989-1992), he conducted field studies of the socialization of males, and authored Coming of Age, a book based on his research. In 1993, he established The National Rites of Passage Institute to serve and develop youth. A sought-after speaker, Hill was also active in many community activities, including the Kwanzaa cultural programs.
