Don't know why I avoided this series for so long, it is wondrous. Learned lots about baking, and loved the English countryside setting including all things blooming.

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS SHOW. I LEARN SO MUCH, NOT THAT I WILL EVER BAKE ANYTHING BUT IT'S FUN TO WATCH. PAUL AND MARY ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER. HAVE PLACED ALL SEASONS NO HOLD CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO COME IN.

I love, love, LOVE this show. It's refreshing to see a competition that is solely about the subject of baking, and not cut through with the dramatic noise of back-biting and fighting like in typical reality and competitive shows. The contestants, hosts, and judges are wonderfully charismatic, and it's easy to cheer for every baker. I'm learning so much about baking and different baking techniques from each episode, and feel inspired to try some of the recipes. On top of all that, I find that this show is on a Bob Ross-level of calm -- it's extremely relaxing to watch.

NOTE: There are several discrepancies with the PBS version of the series.
- First, in the name: The original BBC 2 title is The Great British Bake Off, vs. the PBS/American version, The Great British Baking Show.
- Next, the seasons are dis-ordered. For example, this PBS version -- labeled Season 1 -- is actually Series 5 of the BBC 2 version. Season 2 (American version) is Series 4 (British version), and Season 3 is Series 6. Not sure why these differences exist, or why PBS doesn't follow BBC 2's order.

Fabulous show which concentrates on the job the contestants have to do and not on their sentimental backstories as in some reality shows. It's especially interesting if you're a baker, but I'm guessing from its phenomenal success in the UK that it attracts non-bakers as well. I'm kind of sad that in America they don't air the first four seasons. Maybe the show was a bit more polished further down the line, but it's still our loss. I love to bake and try to view as much of the earlier seasons as possible via youtube.

Probably a better introduction to actual British life than much of its drama which tends to focus on either the aristocracy (an infinitesimal slice of the population) or the criminal classes. Real people are here, young and old. Unlike most dramas, women are properly represented in terms of numbers - what a change! No falsified aggro between people and no psychopaths you love to hate. Just decent folk who like to spend time creating lovely things to eat. And lastly --- you also learn a heck of a lot about baking.

By far the best baking show on television. Much less drama than American cooking competitions and more focus on the bakes. It inspired me to make quite a few things at home!
