Haunted is a novel made up of twenty-three horrifying, hilarious, and stomach-churning stories. They're told by people who have answered an ad for a writer's retreat and unwittingly joined a "Survivor"-like scenario where the host withholds heat, power, and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate, their tales become more extreme, and they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show that will surely be made from their plight. This is one of the most disturbing and outrageous books you'll ever read, one that could only come from the mind of Chuck Palahniuk.

If you're a fan of horror fiction, I would recommend this book, but not for younger readers. The setting is claustrophobic, the characters insane, and the stories gruesome, disturbing and brilliant.
This was the first book I've read by Palahniuk, and although I'm interested to read some of his other titles, I have to admit there were some parts of this book that I couldn't really get behind. In reference to the characters' actions, I was often left with the thought "Why are they doing this?" It's not one of my favourite horror novels, but it's nice to read a decent piece of horror fiction by someone other than Stephen King.

An incredible collection of short stories brought together by a gruesome concept that reveal the worst sides of humanity. Not for the faint of heart or queasy readers. An interesting psychological viewpoint that touches on so many subjects that it never gets boring. One of my favourites!

This collection of short stories takes its cue from the retreat where Mary Shelley, John Polidori and Lord Byron met to brainstorm new stories, and from which the idea for Frankenstein sprung forth, but there the similarity ends. These 23 writers answer an ad for an artist's retreat, which they hope will be peaceful and productive, only to find themselves trapped and slowly losing it. There are some very vivid tales here, but the image that sticks in my mind is the thought of stepping barefoot on dollhouse furniture. Frightening.

Never before have I been so physically affected by a book. My stomach could barely handle the first short story "Guts", and the rest of the novel barely faltered.

Love Palahniuk and his work, this one was very good.
