It has been six years since army nurse Jenny Bennett's heart was broken by a dashing naval officer. Now Lieutenant Ryan Gallagher has abruptly reappeared in her life at the Presidio army base but refuses to discuss the inexplicable behavior that destroyed their happiness.

Ryan is in an impossible situation. One of the few men in the world qualified to carry out a daring assignment, he accepted a government mission overseas that caused his reputation to be destroyed and broke the heart of the only woman he ever loved. Honor bound never to reveal where he had been during those six years, he can't tell Jenny the truth or it will endanger an ongoing mission and put thousands of lives at risk.

Although Ryan thinks he may have finally found a solution, he can't pull it off on his own. Loyalty to her country compels Jenny to help, but she never could have imagined the intrigue she and Ryan will have to face or the lengths to which they will have to go to succeed.

I liked Jenny so much! Such a brave, honest woman. Ryan...not so much. How was he able to handle living under cover for six years when he was so bad at resolving his own problems? I kinda felt that Jenny deserved more, because sure Ryan loved her the most but he didn't understand what she really needed. She wanted him to listen to what she was asking and give her the same open honesty and respect that she had for him. I felt a little sad that there was no mention of her continuing her nursing work in Summerlin because she loved her career. I think Ryan got lucky. If Jenny didn't love him as much as she did, she would've left him.

Beautiful story!!! I enjoyed reading this story it was very emotional filled with an inspirational message of forgiveness relatable to all. Although it was the first time I read a story set in California with references back to Japanese culture, this book kept me interested throughout. I love the ending and the epilogue I thought it was sweet!!!
