"Four media psychologists who also just happen to be dedicated Mad men fans explore how the show's viewers make meaning from fictional drama. The authors also interviewed several contemporary advertising industry professionals, getting their inside view of the business in its modern guise and what they make of the show's vision of their past. The result is ... psychological research that crunches and codes online fan commentary to understand the ways that people use the show to debate complex social issues, from sex and alcohol to gender roles, parenting, and advertising itself"

I find this show touches home base for me. My father was an advertising executive in the 1960s. He was creative director of an ad agency and a very handsome man, just like Don Draper. He also came from a very poor family and had an unhappy childhood. I was the same age as Don's daughter when Kennedy was killed and had a younger brother just like her. My mother was a "perfect" housewife, just like Betty. My dad said the ad agency he worked at was filled with cheaters. He said everyone at the agency except him and his good friend cheated on their wives constantly. Everything in this series is SPOT ON....exactly like it was. I feel like I am reliving my childhood.
