In this book, a bear prepares for hibernation just as his parents taught him to do. Along the way he meets another bear who joins in the preparations. As winter sets in, the two curl up in a bear hug in the cave and hibernate until spring when they emerge with a new addition, their bear cub. The two bears in turn teach their bear cub how to prepare for hibernation. But for now, the little one curls up in the cave with mom and dad for the winter.

The illustrations are done in collage. They are beautiful and interesting. The only negative is at times the illustrations are too dark making it difficult to read the black text.

The story is simply told making it appropriate for young children. It is advertized for grades preschool-2. I think a bit younger would be better suited to this simple story--ages 4-7.

Beautiful illustrations. Mediocre story of the year in the life cycle of a bear.
