The truth will set you free-if it doesn't kill you firs t.

After a serious professional stumble, attorney Trevor Mann may have finally hit his stride. He's found happiness with his girlfriend Claire Parker, a beautiful, ambitious journalist always on the hunt for a scoop. But when Claire's newest story leads to a violent confrontation, Trevor's newly peaceful life is shattered as he tries to find out why.

Chasing Claire's leads, Trevor unearths evidence of a shocking secret that-if it actually exists-every government and terrorist organization around the world would do anything to possess. Suddenly it's up to Trevor, along with a teenage genius who gives new meaning to the phrase "too smart for his own good," to make sure that secret doesn't fall into the wrong hands. But Trevor is about to discover that good and evil can look a lot alike, and nothing is ever black and white: not even the truth.

Great book, James Patterson never disappoints. This is a stand alone novel without any of his classic characters. It reminded me a little bit of John Grisham. This book is a fast read with short chapters and you won't want to stop at any of them. The characters were well developed and likable.

Looking at some of the previous reviews some of them were not that good. However, I really enjoyed it. Because James Patterson and company are spitting books out so quickly often they have not been well developed and certainly lack the depth of his first books. This book kept me thoroughly interested. I liked the characters and the storyline. A good read.

One of the poorer-written books by Patterson & company.
Characters were not well-developed and the plot was too choppy and unbelievable.

The usual Patterson fare, I guess -- quite frankly, it was so unmemorable I can't recall a thing about it. I must have finished it, so I suppose it was okay for a bit of distraction.

James Patterson has become a machine spitting out book after book. I don't read them all, just a few here and there that appeal to me. I chose this one because I tend to like stories with a smart, precocious kid thrown in the mix. This was a fun, fast-paced book that didn't take itself too seriously. It's told in first person by Trevor who throws light hearted and amusing quips at the reader throughout. I found it to be an easy and entertaining read.

Fast-paced, excellent story line. Couldn't put it down - read it in less than a day. Plenty of twists to keep you occupied. Definitely an awesome read.

too many "clever" asides that distract from his stories which seem a bit weak. Also don't like the picture on the book jacket. Looks like he's straining, if you know what i mean.
