Twins Abby and Derick have been invited to attend Cragbridge Hall. But before they leave their grandpa has a very important and secret gift for them. They are both given a locket to wear, keep close and secret. You see, their grandpa is a very prestigious inventor, with the last name of Cragbridge. He had given the school its notoriety and acclaim. The school is home to many gifted students, but Abby isn't sure why she was excepted. Derick on the other hand, is very intelligent and has often out done Abby in everything. Her grandpa feels she has a lot of heart, especially since she puts forth a lot of effort to learn. Abby suspects he had something to do with her getting into Cragbridge.

Upon their arrival to Cragbridge the twins soon learn more about their grandpa's great invention the Historiographic Visualizer, better known as the Bridge. The Bridge reads and displays times memory. Its exceptional holographic images allows students to participate in histories past as if they were there. They can see Blackbeard’s crew or animals in a zoo, right in front of their very eyes. Although the Bridge is exciting it does have limitations and holds more secrets than the twins could every imagine.

During a lunch period Abby's locket mysteriously opens and reveals a note along with a tiny key. Abby and Derick soon discover that their grandpa and parents have been kidnapped by a sinister man from their grandpa's past. This adversary is set to get the greatest secret of all time. A secret so huge it could alter time and reality. With the help of the Bridge, their lockets and the clues left by their grandpa, the twins set out to unravel the mystery of their missing family with the help of history itself and preserve their grandpa's greatest secret. Are they up to the challenge?

Morris has woven history, mystery and technology into a wonderful adventure. This middle grade read is great for boys but especially girls since the story seems to be from the main female characters point of view. Young readers will relate to all of the normal school issues along with understanding the characters and their challenge. If readers love history this tale will test their knowledge and for those who don't know much about history will become engaged and encouraged to learn more.
