"The first book in a major new series from the #1 internationally bestselling author Lucinda Riley. Maia D'Apliese and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home, "Atlantis"--a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva--having been told that their beloved father, who adopted them all as babies, has died. Each of them is handed a tantalizing clue to her true heritage--a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once there, she begins to put together the pieces of her story and its beginnings. Eighty years earlier in Rio's Belle Epoque of the 1920s, Izabela Bonifacio's father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into the aristocracy. Meanwhile, architect Heitor da Silva Costa is devising plans for an enormous statue, to be called Christ the Redeemer, and will soon travel to Paris to find the right sculptor to complete his vision. Izabela--passionate and longing to see the world--convinces her father to allow her to accompany him and his family to Europe before she is married. There, at Paul Landowski's studio and in the heady, vibrant cafes of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again. In this sweeping, epic tale of love and loss--the first in a unique, spellbinding series of seven novels--Lucinda Riley showcases her storytelling talent like never before"-- Provided by publisher.

Following the death of their enigmatic adoptive father, each of the six D'Aplièse sisters receives a letter from him with a secret clue to their origins. This book follows the eldest sister, Maia, as her letter leads her to Brazil to discover her roots. This book is perfect for armchair travelers – the writing brings Rio de Janeiro to life - and not only do we travel in space but back in time to the 1920s as Maia uncovers the life story of her great-grandmother. This is the first book in a series and I look forward to each new release to sweep me away to another time and place as the sisters explore their pasts, learn about themselves, and sometimes find romance along the way.

Such a great story within a story, keep your interest as well as some history and geography thrown in, enjoyed this book totally.

Silly plot. Dumb dialogue. Kept waiting for it to get better; it didn't.

I enjoyed this book. Love that this is one of a series of 7 books. ... loosely based on the 7 Sisters star constellation. I am hoping that the theme of the 7 sisters is revealed more as I read each novel. It is an interesting read. An epic love story with a happy ever after ending. Adoption and finding ones roots are wrapped with romance and history to create a good read. `

Fell in love with this book immediately!! I listen to books in CD in my car and this as wonderful. Although I was heartbroken when I saw that CML doesn’t carry the next books in the series in audiobook. I reached out to the author and she is checking to see why not as they are available on CD.

This is a truly wonderful story - the first one of the series... full of interesting facts intermingled with fiction. I really enjoyed reading it and I'm now about to read the second book.
Have a look at Lucinda Riley's website on these books for some fascinating information about them.

Thoroughly recommended! :-)

The first book in a planned series, The Seven Sisters is an engaging, easy to read story of family secrets, self-discovery and romance in a beautiful setting. This book focuses on the eldest sister's search for the truth about her past. Each of the sisters is well-drawn with a distinct voice so I look forward to following their stories in future books.

Once again, Lucinda Riley weaved a beautiful tale that brought Rio de Janeiro and it's history alive for me. It is a very factual novel intertwined with history, art and the unravelling of a love story that becomes relevant in present day. The only drawback was it was slow at the beginning but once Maia's story emerged, I couldn't put it down.

Intriguing! Book 1 in the Seven Sisters Series has a very unusual story-line...fanciful, rather mysterious, historically accurate, yet relevant to today.
I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to Book 2!
