Crown Fountain, Video Still With Notes, July 30, 2003
A printed out image of a face that will be included in Crown Fountain's video bank, showing some of the considerations the film makers had to take into account. The dimensions of Crown Fountain, at 50 feet tall and 23 feet wide, meant that for each face to be full screen, the images had to be stretched, like taffy, to fit the screen. In addition to this, every face is cropped to hide hair and ears, and the eyes and mouths had to be in exactly the same place on the screen, every time. To manage this, the film makers divided each face into ten zones and worked on each zone separately. They also had to correct for color and contrast, given that the images are projected through glass bricks that are almost 2 inches thick, sometimes with the sun shining directly on the screen.
