Etta does not feel accepted by anyone as a bisexual, African American teen with an eating disorder. All she wants is to get out of Nebraska and go to an arts high school in New York. As she prepares for an audition, new friendships force her to examine her identity and her need to be accepted.

Etta doesn't fit in anywhere. She's too straight for the gay kids and too gay for the straight kids, not skinny or white enough for ballet, not sick enough to look anorexic.
