Aaron, a young misfit in a remote Scottish community, is the lone survivor of a strange fishing accident that claimed the lives of five men including his older brother. Spurred on by sea-going folklore and local superstition, the village blames Aaron for this tragedy, making him an outcast amongst his own people. This is a surrealistic, experimental film about the sole survivor of a lost Scottish fishing boat. The survivor suffers not only the loss of memory about the accident, the loss of his close brother, but also the abuse of the families of the lost ones. Mixed in the story are fisherman’s myths, which can seem rather real to someone so traumatized and lacking in psychological therapy and counseling. Subtitles would have been beneficial to improve understanding of those with the thicker Scottish accents, especially in the portions of the film that are more mythical, chaotic, and surreal.
