“In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.” This quote by Anne Frank had a profound influence on me when I first read it. How could anyone go through what Anne did and still believe in people’s goodness? I figured that if Anne Frank could still have faith in humanity after what she experienced, then I could too, no matter what was going on in our world.
While it’s not possible to hear Anne’s thoughts on her world or ours, we are privileged to still be able to hear from survivors. Please join us online for the Johnson County Library’s eleventh annual Holocaust program, In Memory of Six Million, on April 22nd, 2021, 6:30-7:30.

In 1942, Anne Frank, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam in an old office building. They were disconnected from the outside world and faced boredom, hunger, and difficulties of living in confined quarters. Anne Frank wrote about her experiences during this time. Anne was very articulate in the way she expressed her thoughts and emotions. Anne was honest and told the thoughts closest to her heart in every page. She genuinely made me laugh at times but also made me feel so sad because whatever she and her family went through was real! It is so heartbreaking that they had to live like this. It really makes me think about the unfairness of life and the cruelty of people's actions, and the effects those actions had on so many innocent individuals. It's crazy to think that this happened just a couple of decades ago. This was such a powerful, emotional, and eye-opening read. Rating: 5 stars

I never felt so happy, sad, and angry because of what happened to Anne and her family because of the German Nazis. I am also surprised that she hasn't talked to her real friends besides her imagination friend named Kitty (aka that is how Anne Frank named her diary.) I've learned alot of things about ehat Anne Frank and her family had to through all the years of hiding in the Secret Annexe and how Anne was describing what it looks like in her time.

The Diary Of A Young Girl was written by Anne Frank In 1942 and tells the true story of a Jewish girl during WW2. This is a must read for students as it truly shows how terrible the second World War was and how some people suffered greatly as a result. Anne describes
each day in her diary as she went through moods of depression, anger, and loneliness because she was cooped up in a hidden attic (which was called the Secret Annex) for 2 years hiding from the Nazis. Overall it is a tragic, interesting, and amazing story about
a girl who couldn’t ever grow up to be the wonderful writer she dreamed of being, but her story lives on forever.

I read this aloud with my teens. This version contains 30% more material (from back cover). There are a number of negative, perhaps disrespectful, entries regarding her mother and others describing making out with a boy also living in the secret annex. It may not be the best version for younger children.

Anne Frank's words still haunt many years after WWII. As a young Jewish girl in hiding from the Nazis during the later years of the war, she tells of her life and those hiding with her so very poignantly.

I read this book as part of the 300 books everyone should read once challenge featured on listopia. I just am a sucker for a good coming of age story and this one is one of the best. Diary entries make for quick chapters and easy reading. Really helps you appriciate history and the terror they must have gone through.

This diary is an authentic portrayal straight from the historic Anne Frank, illustrating her family’s tough journey secretly hiding from Nazis throughout World War two. It’s a heart-wrenching story when you look at just the events, but Anne’s determination to be bold and positive in her diary is really admirable and helps her (and the reader) push past the melancholy and find the good. Anne comes from an honest and sometimes brutal standpoint that explores every aspect of her life in hiding and her thoughts. Her opinions on family often hit close to home, as she struggles with how her family members view her and her personality, which is something that I’m sure many people can relate to. It’s nice to know that others, even people from entirely different time periods and cultural contexts, can have similar feelings. However, since it was partly written to accurately describe the hardships of the war, it may at times get a little too in-detail, although one could argue that this adds to its historical importance. On a different note, it’s very sad to hear about how much of herself Anne had to suppress to maintain her family’s image of her, and how she really only came to Peter and her diary to express her true feelings. Unfortunately, Anne didn’t live long enough to truly get comfortable with letting out her inner self and being more confident in her ideas and aspirations, but she did grow more mature and improve her relations with her family in an inspiring way. If she had lived a longer life, there is no doubt that Anne would have accomplished so much more. In general, Anne Frank’s story is a crucial coming of age story that inspires and encourages readers to keep being positive no matter what their situation. I give it 4.5/5 stars. This book is very inspiring and cool..... it's amazing that we can read the inside thoughts of a girl in the time war.

I was loathe to put this book down. I am saddened that this is the only work of Anne Frank we shall ever see. She should have had the chance to become a journalist and write novels as she wanted to-- with her inquisitive mind and strong spirit, imagine the body of work she'd have gone on to create!

But even if the Nazis took her life, they could not silence Anne in the end. This diary is filled with descriptions of life in hiding, but it's also a great coming-of-age text that remains evergreen. I'm shocked to see other reviewers were bored. I thought it was riveting, but then again, maybe it's because I keenly remember being a teenager and having similar feelings about my parents, my place in the world-- only Anne had to grow up so much faster due to the bad place in history that she found herself.

I would absolutely recommend this book to teen readers studying the Holocaust and WWII. It's one thing to read about all the people who died in a textbook, but it's another to see how this all affected a normal young girl.
