"Between 2007 and 2008, bestselling author Christopher Buckley (who was 55 years old at the time) buried both of his larger-than-life parents, William F. Buckley, Jr., the father of the modern conservative movement, and Patricia Taylor Buckley, one of New York's most colourful socialites. Losing Mum and Pup is Buckley's account of their deaths and how he learned to cope with his grief, but it is also about family, for Buckley recounts episodes of his parents' 57-year marriage as well as his own relationship with them." Loving but very funny memoir by Christopher Buckley of his famous parents as their lives were coming to an end. A good reminder that even the rich and famous must go through what everyone else does. Highly recommended.

For those who have gone through the heartbreak and the frustrations of elderly relatives' last days, this book strikes home. Although most of us do not have parents as well known or as wealthy as Christopher Buckley's, it doesn't matter. Buckley writes of his parents' last days and deaths with affection, yet candidly--and with just the right touch of humor--tells of his frustrations as well, frustrations that many of us who have lost parents well know. Welcome to the brotherhood and sisterhood of adult orphans, Christopher! And thank you for letting us know that we are not alone!
