While it's entertaining to read, this volume is not a necessary part of the AVX canon. In skipping it you will miss nothing.

An up and down collection for the series, wrapping up Avengers versus X-Men in a second half from the Jean Grey school. Some of the art doesn't work- Bachalo, fortunately, is confined to a single issue. And there is a problem with timing- two entire issues get jammed in between tie-in issues to the larger event. A character in one of those issues, Doop, is a pointless character, and the villains in the other, the Children of the Corn version of the Hellfire Club, are just silly. Of this volume, an issue that concerns itself with the X-Men getting ready to confront the Phoenix empowered Cyclops is actually the best; it demonstrates Aaron's good storytelling abilities.
