BANG! POW! Super Girls in Comics

With all the new superhero blockbusters like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men: Days of Future Past, it’s hard not to love caped crusaders. For comic book geeks like me, it feels like a new golden age of heroes. This year, for One Book One Chicago, we celebrate the history of superheroes with Michael Chabon's The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. But what … (more)

I really enjoyed this version of Supergirl. She's angry because she just woke up on a new planet with no memory of what's happened to her home planet. She wants to get home. Some guy claims to be her cousin who was a baby just the day before to her. I liked seeing Kara on this journey to find her ship, find out what happened to her parents. Then we meet the really big bads for this series. Her opponents are scary but Supergirl can handle it. I'm excited to hopefully read more of this series.

Michael Green does a great job of presenting Supergirl as a newcomer to Earth:

Kara discovers she has strange new powers (thanks the power of the yellow Sun?? -- yeah, it's a thing), can't speak the language and on top of it all, her nephew (Supes himself) has grown into an adult, if it's truly him at all.

Not only that but a creepy billionaire wants to steal her essence, and the beastly WorldKillers from Krypton want her to join their quest or die.

Needless to say, it's a pretty stressful day.

I love it! I haven't read the next ones yet, but this is a great debut for Supergirl. I can already sense there's some darkness in the comics, which I appreciate. Also appreciate the all female cast of villains.

I read this 52 straight through and really enjoyed it. My first Supergirl comic....I think.....and cannot wait to read the next issue. A new twist with the(almost) all female cast of villians. Who or what is the 5th worldkiller?? DOOMSDAY? Who killed Karas father? Who does Mr.Tycho become? Will the answers be in the next issue?

Another of the New 52 reboot series. I don't care for the reboot, though this particular series starts off well enough, re-establishing Supergirl's place on Earth, her quest to discover the truth of what happened to her, and where she belongs.
