Unintentionally funny. I think the writer was probably 12 - it would explain a lot.

I've been checking out a lot of recent Marvel compendiums lately and I left this one pretty low on the list expecting just another cheesy crossover.

Wrong! In terms of sheer quality and enjoyment this might have been the best of the bunch, or at least equivalent to the Whedon run on Astonishing X-Men.

If, like Hugh Jackman, you dream of a big-screen X-Men/Avengers mash-up that will never be this is the closest you're likely to get, with an able assist by a resurgent Red Skull who acts as a truly diabolical villain (no exaggeration, here: the visions and manipulations he uses on Our Heroes are downright demonic!). Can't wait to read vol. 2!

Professor X is dead. Cyclops is locked up. Captain America feels bad the the Avengers haven't helped the X-Men out enough. Behold! The Avengers/X-Men fusion team. Our Avengers line up is Thor and Captain America and we later have Superboy and Wasp join up. Our X-Men representatives are Scarlet Witch, Rogue, Wolverine, and Havoc. What a clash of personalities and histories here. That factors a lot here but not as much as the return (!) of Red Skull who is now even more dangerous thanks to an unthinkable enhancement. Really. It's not cool at all.

The story is a little ridiculous in the endearing way that comic stories can be but I'm curious to see what lies ahead, personnel wise and plot wise

Rick Remender. John Cassaday. With the B team being Olivier Copiel? How can this be bad?? This is a keeper if for nothing else just to check out the gorgeous art as well as following the audacious story. I wondered how a 1940s Red Skull returning - which just sounds like a villain retread - could be interesting. Well, it is that, and then some.
