An absolutely wonderful book I would recommend for anyone either interested in solo travel or in need of help recognizing self worth/confidence. I happened across this book by chance right after a bad break up and it helped me value myself and the importance of being independent again. It's a very beautiful novel that is organized in two parts. Part one is about the author's struggles/triumphs throughout her life from childhood until present, and part two is multiple recounts of solo travel trips she's been on and the life lessons she learned from them. A wonderful book exploring independence, overcoming fear, having a strong sense of self, testing your limits, and all while appreciating the tranquility of nature. Written in flowing sentences that read as though she's telling you in person, I cannot recommend this book enough.

Not what I was expecting at all based on the title, and the National Geographic name. I have a feeling her travel books are probably more interesting, but this was disappointing. It read like a University essay where you are trying desperately to link all these unrelated events back to your main theme, even when the links are untenable. She has been on some amazing adventures, but the recounting of those being squashed in with the "self help" aspect made them lose some of their lustre.

Although it took me a few months and many renewals to get through this I found it inspiring to my own journey, as I am looking to venture out on my own ( away from Canada)

her adventures resonated with me: from the wilds of nature to the wilds of the dating game.
