A great choice for literary teens. No sex on the page, minimal violence (especially in terms of the age of Hunger Games). The time element requires a sophisticated ability to track multiple stories. Definitely one of my favorites of the year.

To be completely honest, I was not excited about reading this book because I am thoroughly disinterested by circuses. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. It was utterly magical - and not just for circus enthusiasts. Dynamic characters, life-long rivalries, and a romance at the heart of it all. Not your regular circus, and not your regular book.

A fantastically well written book by a first time author. The books is both beautifully written and full of suspense. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is A tug of war between two magicians over the fate of a mysterious circus. The imagery and the descriptions make this an unforgettable read. The fantasy elements take a back seat to the overall story. I hope to follow this author for years to come.

Simultaneously light hearted and emotionally provoking. As a read on, I became more and more invested in the characters until suddenly the book ended and I was left with the mystery of what became of The Night Circus.

14+ A book of exquisite description. Not much of a plot, a fantasy novel of beautiful poetic prose. Magical and delicate, a joy to read. A read alike for Water for Elephants.

This book was a delight to listen to for two reasons: It's an absolutely fabulous book written in a way that enraptured. Also, the narrator was splendid, pulling me into the book at every word. I felt like I was at the Night Circus, the imagery was so powerful. Highly, highly recommend it, especially as an audiobook.

This book was a feast for the senses and I absolutely loved the characters. Each one was so unique and memorable. I seriously wish the circus was real and for the moments when I was reading this story it was. The author is so great at creating the wistful environment of the circus I became a reveur myself.

"The heart of the tale and the ideas behind it are simple. Time has altered and condensed their nuances, made them more than story, greater than the sums of their parts. But that requires time. The truest tales require time and familiarity to become what they are."

The Burgess sisters arrive together. Tara and Lainie do a little bit of everything. Sometimes dancers, sometimes actresses. Once they were librarians, but that is a subject they will only discuss if heavily intoxicated.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.
