I have a hard time believing that, even in a fairly strict Amish district, Lydia's transgression would have been considered heinous enough to cause so much angst and anguish in real life. It seems to me that author Clipston makes a mountain from a molehill in order to facilitate the rest of the story. It does, however, serve to show how the proverbial web of secrets and lies can generate a fallout more serious than the deed itself. The story as a whole feels very real; it's easy to become emotionally involved as the characters face numerous trials. Although the setting is an Amish community, this is above all a coming-of-age story to which any teen or parent (or anyone who has ever been either) should readily relate. Fans of "Amish romance" should enjoy this book even though it doesn't center on romance; it's likely that this book will appeal to an even wider audience if given the chance.

It's interesting when Amish terms are liberally sprinkled throughout the story but be sure to include a list of what they mean. Sometimes it becomes obvious later in the line or even a line or two later. But often, not.

this book really tells you how amish people live, and i founs out a lot of new things! :)
