Rick Riordan Q&A

Get to know Rick Riordan, October's Author of the Month. He explains the inspiration behind his writing, how he got his start and what makes the Heroes of Olympus series unique. Where did you get your idea for this book? Long before I started, I pretty much knew what The Mark of Athena would be about: Greek and Roman demigods finally meet one another. Where to begin?
I positively adored Percabeth. My little babies were totally rocking it. This book has fantastic character-development and plot, Leo forever and ever, but I am not getting into all of the nitty-gritty details, I'm not going to review this book, because Rick writes entire megillahs. I'll only say one thing:
JUDO-FLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP.
There.
Read it! Now!! Trust me.
Oh wait. Don't. Because, oh yah, it's hell. The reason why is a major SPOILER ALERT SO STOP READING BECAUSE IT IS A SPOILER ALERT STOP READING PLEEAASE!!!!:

It's a tiny other totally insignificant non-important completely trivial matter that is
MR. RICK. RIORDAN. YOU. ARE. ON. MY. BLACKLIST. GET. MY. BABIES. OUT. OF. HELL. BEFORE. I. PERSONALLY. COME. TO. BOSTON. AND. KIDNAP. YOU. AND. TRAVEL. TO. EUROPE. AND. THROW. YOU. INTO. TARTARUS. MYSELF.

Thank you very much.

Love PJATO, so this didn't disappoint me! Couldn't put it down, and I grew to like Leo Valdez and his personality so much more. Probably my favorite in this series. RECOMMEND! :D

I love how Annabeth is more central in this book. Her character brings so much to the story.
In this fabulous third instalment of 'The Heroes of Olympus', the seven heroes must journey to the ancient land—Greece. There Annabeth must follow the Mark of Athena and face a terrible enemy, one who has never been defeated before and who is the living nightmare of a child of Athena.

The Mark of Athena combines both Greek demigods and Roman demigods going on a quest - Kim, age 11

“The Mark of Athena” was not only action packed, but there was a lot of problem solving, it was humorous and, had a fantasy genre. The character development is better than ever in this book and the relationship between Percy and Annabeth is getting stronger each second. I liked the fact that Annabeth was a narrator because I felt more connected to her character since I got to see things from her point of view. All seven demigods were able to finally begin their quest and meet each other for the first time. The main quest in “The Mark of Athena” was to go to Rome, find Nico, and find the Doors of Death. However, plans change and many obstacles get in their way. The ending was downright sad. So many things happened in the ending. The ending was not only sad but Rick Riordan's amazing writing left us on a cliffhanger. If you liked the previous series, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians, or the previous books in “The Heroes of Olympus”, you will fall in love with “The Mark of Athena”. I would recommend reading this book. 5/5 stars.

The two camps have now found out about each other. But all the times before this happened, there was bloodshed. The demigods must figure out a way to stop that from happening. They must convince the gods to let them fight alongside them in order to kill the giants. And Annabeth is given a different task. She must do what the smartest children of Athena over the generations have tried to do and died trying. 5 Stars

I really enjoyed how this book went into greater detail about Annabeth and Athena/ Minerva. All along, I have found Annabeth my most relatable and favourite character throughout the series, so this book was emotionally dramatic for me to read at moments. If I was a demigod, I would love to have my godly parent be Athena. Who wouldn't use a bit more intelligence and sass in their lives? I ship Percy and Annabeth a lot. But this cliffhanger at the end really killed me when I had to wait a year to read The House of Hades! Now that the whole group is united, what will possibly bring them down? The answer to that is a long and complex list! 5/5 Stars.

This is more than an amazing book! It is very exciting and interesting. But, if you read this book, you will have to hold it tight, cause 2 of the best characters go to their enimies area, far from their friends, and only to the area where it is hard to survive in. Oh, I'm not telling you! Read this book to find out!!

Percy: Wait, we're sitting on (glass) doors?
Annabeth: Don't worry. Only Leo and I know how to control it. It won't open. Probably.
Percy: Great.
Annabeth: (laughs)

"You've been guarding this statue since the ancient times," Annabeth guessed. "But it doesn't belong here. I'm taking it back."
"Ha," Arachne said.
Even Annabeth had to admit her threat sounded ridiculous. How could one girl in a Bubble Wrap ankle cast remove this statue from its underground chamber?
"I'm afraid you'll have to defeat me first, my sweet," Arachne said. "And alas, that is impossible."

When ever Percy stopped by to see her, she was so lost in thought that the conversation went something like this:
Percy: "Hey, how's it going?"
Annabeth: "Uh, no thanks."
Percy: "Okay...have you eaten anything today?"
Annabeth: "I think Leo is on duty. Ask him."
Percy: "Soo, my hair is on fire."
Annabeth: "Okay. In a while."
She got like this sometimes. It was one of the challenges of dating an Athena girl.
