We’re Off to See the Wizard!

It's been 75 years since Dorothy stepped into the technicolor world of munchkins and flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz, which still ranks as one of the most awesome movies of all time. The film is based on the book by Chicago native L. Frank Baum, with a few details changed. For example, did you know that Dorothy's shoes were originally silver instead of ruby red? The classic tale of Dorothy an… (more)

This live-action movie with computer-graphics characters and nice visual effects brings a fantastic adventure from Walt Disney Pictures and Tim Burton, the director.
This film turns out an incredible feast for your eyes and ears so that it captivates your heart as well as those of audiences of all sizes.

Nice makeup, nice costume, nice animation. I think Mad Hatter character is more dominant than Alice who is supposedly the main character in this story. Alice is more grownup in the movie. The story was good while Alice was in the fantasy world because of the fantasy characters which were really well done. But when the story was brought back to reality, it was not quite interesting. The ending seemed rush, just being thrown in to end the film happily.

I saw this movie at the cinema years ago. It was amazing then, but I must say I love it than I did in the movies! The Blu-ray format is extremely clear and vivid. The everyone in this movie truly are all amazing, from Alice’s wonder and confusion to the flower faces. I enjoy them but particularly the Hatter and Cheshire Cat. Johnny Depp's Hatter is supreme. Every time I watch it, from the moment he sees Alice for the first time, when his whole face lights up with his huge bow tie along with it, I am hooked! The special effects and action are phenomenal, with the CGI of the Queen of Hearts and Cheshire Cat, and pretty much along with everything else in this movie, it will make you feel that they are right there right beside you. Bottom line, charming movie. (5/5)

A visually dark, creepy, psychotic work of art, a masterpiece that will last through the ages, where fascination replaces enjoyment. There are parts which could (should) be disturbing to children, such as having an eye plucked out, animal cruelty, etc.

Great new take on classic. Not recommended for children actually. To get the references it helps to have read the book. Excellent but didn't like all the dark Tim Burton additions.

Alice for grownups. That's really all it is. The story is okay, the animation does its job, and the characters hit the right notes on their design and mannerisms, but there is something decidedly unsettling about everything. Maybe because it's a Tim Burton movie?

As action-packed and heroic as it is, I kind of feel like a lot of the original charm from the older movies and books is lost here, replacing substance with a fancy coat of paint. It looks alright and performs alright, but there's just something there that makes it seem off.

An incredibly visually rich and diverse film! The special effects are awesome - they enhance what is going on rather than distracting from it. The oddities of characters, and the active progression of the plot are the real charm of this film. There are many funny moments and many touching ones, but neither end being too strong of a force overpowering the films quirky delights.

Alice looks about 80 even though in the books she is about 7.

I very much enjoyed watching the Disney’s live-action interpretation of the classic that is Alice in Wonderland. The characters were all very believable, and the colourful animation effects were outstanding. The story remained entertaining throughout the entire film, and it was very easy to like and connect with Alice. The actor’s portrayals were fantastic, and they did a great job of bringing the story to life. I think that this movie encapsulates an older audience as well, whereas the animated version was more geared towards children. I would highly recommend this movie – my family and I watched it together and were all satisfied! @PenelopeScriptor of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

The movie “Alice in Wonderland” is absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen, everything about this movie is horrible. The animation of this movie was alright, but at times during the movie it did seem a bit fake. The only positive thing about “Alice in Wonderland” is the quality, the characters and backgrounds were very clear. This movie included a variety of bright colours throughout the movie, although it also included a few dark colours to emphasize sadness .It was much different than the original movie, I personally believe that the original movie was much better than this version. “Alice in Wonderland” is basically about Alice’s return to Wonderland. The ending of this movie was terrible just like the rest of the movie, “Alice in Wonderland” has a happy ending although it was seemed very fake and very childish. The mood and emotion of this movie were horrible and did not seem realistic. However, little children really enjoyed this movie despite how terrible it was. “Alice in Wonderland” is a disgrace to all Disney lovers. Rating 2/5.

This new movie take on the original classic by the same name, brings former lovers back to this amazing and whimsical storyline. Alice is older now and has completely forgotten about the mystical world that she visited as a child. However, after chasing a white rabbit down the rabbit hole, Alice finds herself back in the world that she once knew. This time, she must stop the Red Queen from taking over the land and rescue some familiar faces. This live-action film has a nice rendition of the classic tale and adds a modern spin to it all. Some moments were lackluster and darker than the original, however, it was an enjoyable film overall. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars and recommend it to lovers of the original story and movie.

It's really an art-exhibition, not a film. The dark grimness and bright colors are a bit over the top and confusing. You lose control of the story and it ruins the Disney feel. Tim Burton's adaptation is unique, but lacks story and character development.
