Among rumors of Iraq's imminent invasion, time is running out for Clara and her husband Ahmed who have put together a ragtag team of renegade archaeologists and inexperienced students to excavate the Bible of Clay from deep within the heart of Iraq. These clay tablets predate the Bible by a thousand years and could be one of the most important discoveries of all time, only another far more sinister team is determined to get there first--a team that has roots that reach deeply into the horrors of Nazi Germany.--From publisher's description.

A story consisting of three strands. The first, and oldest, in pre-Biblical times with Abraham as he tells the stories of the creation and Noah to a young, precocious scribe.
The second strand in Nazi Germany in one of the many concentration camps that dot the landscape of WW II.
The final strand, the weightiest of them all, the one that ties the first two together, the one that is illuminated, bit by bit, by the other two is located in the Middle East, Iraq to be precise, in the days just before the Second Gulf War.
A war criminal from Nazi Germany is virtutally on his death bed. There is a hurried archaeological expedition to find the lost tablets before the war fires up; before the hired assassins kill their prey; before the thieves have their opportunity to steal the treasures. It's a complicated story. But one that contains suspense and drama in equal measure.
You'll be glad you read this book.
