Dang. This was the first fumble in the series. The previous one, The Overlook, was great. This one felt like some of my home repair projects: some duct tape and paint at the end to make it complete. Without spoiling the book for new readers, there is a component involving Hong Kong that seems contrived only to eliminate a recurring character and deepen the fatherhood/vulnerability angle. Nobody hits the ball every time and hopefully the next one will be back to form.

I always enjoy Michael Connelly's writing. Plot was fast and furious and not always predictable or entirely believable. But, hey, it is Harry Bosch.

My least favourite Harry Bosch book. I too felt that it was cobbled together, making large leaps in credibility.

This is the only Harry Bosch book I found dull and uninteresting... which puzzles me since I've found Connelly's writing to be excellent throughout all his Bosch/Haller books. The sudden jumps to and from Hong Kong in 40 hours, coincidences and characters that seem unbelievable,... something is off - if not stretched beyond belief - in this book. Disappointing.

I have read a number of his works and this one was truly enjoyable. Good storyline and all the twists you usually get from Connelly as well as a very good ending.

This book completely surprised me. It was suggested to me by a friend because he thought it was cool since it has plenty of curses but once I took a step into the amazing world of this book I was shocked. That seemingly boring and stupid book was actually interesting.

Now that Matthew McConnaughey has created Michael Connelly's character of Mickey Haller in the movie "The Lincoln Lawyer," I am ready to nominate Nine Dragons for the next film adaptation of a Connelly novel, and Tommy Lee Jones to play the character of Hieronymus (Harry) Bosch. Nine Dragons features a cameo appearance by Mickey Haller, and I think Jones and McConnaughey would play off each other nicely onscreen.
Nine Dragons moves rapidly among LA and Hong Kong settings, includes plenty of fireworks, violence and blood, and along the way gives more insights into Bosch's cop character that we have followed through several novels.

Definitely not up to Connelly's usual high standards, and not the best of the HB series by any means. Michael has been churning out a lot lately, so as I read this I wondered if he was employing ghost writers.
We have had Terry McCaleb in a movie, and now Mickey Haller ( Lincoln Lawyer ), so when will we finally get Harry Bosch on the big screen.
